Question : Disinvestment of Air India

(a) whether the Government proposes to reconsider its decision to sell out the debt ridden Air India and its auxiliary companies and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Union Government is working on an ‘alternative mechanism’ for making the national carrier Air India a vibrant airline and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether some private airlines have shown interest in the international operations of the Air India and if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(d) whether the Government proposes to seek an assurance from the new owner of Air India for a better treatment and secured employment for its existing employees and if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government proposes to change rules to allow foreign airlines to bid for Air India Limited and if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the names and details of the air carriers, if any, which have shown interest in acquisition of overseas as well as domestic operations of Air India?

(a): No, Madam.;;

(b):The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), in its meeting held on 28.06.2017, has given in-principle approval for considering strategic disinvestment of Air India and its five subsidiaries and constitution of Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) to guide the process of strategic disinvestment from time to time and decide on issues. ;;

(c): M/s Inter Globe Aviation Limited has shown interest in acquiring airline operations of Air India Limited and Air India Express. ;
