Question : Launching of new Insurance Scheme

(a) whether the Government proposes to launch a new Insurance Scheme for the benefit of the farmers to cover the loss of crops due to natural calamities and price fluctuations, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has held any discussion with the stakeholders, in this regard;

(c) if so, the current status of the scheme and whether this scheme is likely to be launched on a priority basis in areas affected by flood and drought; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

(a) to (d): Yes, Madam. Improvement in crop insurance schemes to make these more scientific in order to better serve the interests of the farmers, is a continuous process and steps are taken by the Government from time to time. Government is actively involved with various stakeholders including State Governments in order to improve the existing crop insurance schemes to protect the income of farmers against yield and price fluctuations.
