Question : SUBSIDY FOR SETTING UP OF COLD STORAGES



(a) whether NABARD provides subsidy to individual companies for setting up of cold storages;

(b) if so, the number of such applications pending with NABARD and since when these are pending; and

(c) the steps taken by NABARD for speedy disposal of such applications ?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI BALASAHEB VIKHE PATIL) :

(a) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has reported that it provides subsidy underthe cold storage scheme of Government of India to the eligible organizations availing bank loan through financial institutions eligible for refinance from NABARD. As approved by Government, Cooperatives, companies, partnership and proprietary firms, agricultural produce`marketing committees/boards, agro-industries, Corporations and Growers` Associations are eiigibie for subsidy underthe scheme.

(b) As on 28th July, 2001, NABARD has received 221 applications, of which, only 8 applications are pending for release. The period of pendency is less than one month in the case of seven applications. Only one application is pending for more than one month for want of certain clarifications.

(c) In order to ensure speedy disposal of subsidy claims, the sanctioning powers for release of subsidy have been delegated to the Regional Offices of NABARD. The progress is monitored at Head Office level on a weekly basis. The Regional Offices of NABARD have been advised to process the subsidy claims on priority basis.
