(a) whether the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has proposed to conduct a survey across the country on drug use/ abuse;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the methodology for conducting the survey;

(d) the duration of the proposed survey; and

(e) the budget sharing formula between the Ministry and AIIMS?

(a) to (c): The Ministry has recently assigned the work of conducting the National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use to the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), All India Instituted of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The objectives of the proposed survey are:
(i) To provide national-level and state-level estimates of proportion and absolute number of people who use and people who are dependent on various psychoactive substances (drug) in India.
(ii) To map the presence of services and interventions for drug dependent individual and identify the gaps in service delivery.
(d): The work of the National Survey is estimated to be completed by 2018.
(e): The cost of the National Survey shall be fully borne by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
