Question : PUBLIC HEALTH SCHEMES



(a) whether most of the public health schemes do not reach the people;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps being taken by the Union Government to resolve the issues with the consultations of the State Governments?

(a) to (c): For the prevention and control of major communicable diseases, there are three public health programmes viz. National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme; Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme; and National Leprosy Eradication Programme, being implemented by the Government. These programmes are being implemented within the overall framework of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in a decentralized manner with the active involvement and participation of State level, district level and sub-district level public health authorities. The annual action plans for these programmes are finalized in consultation with the State Governments and are included in the Project Implementation Plans (PIPs) under NRMH.The involvement of NGOs, private providers and other sectors is being promoted with a view to reach out the benefits of these progammes to the people at large.The implementation of these programmes is monitored by the Government of India and the State Governments form time to time through review meetings and field visits.
