Question : Arrests of Persons for ISIS Links

(a) whether the Government has any information regarding the number of persons detained or questioned due to ISIS links in the country;

(b) if so, the number of such persons arrested during the current year, State-wise;

(c) whether there are any inputs to suggest the presence of ISIS cadres among Indian youths;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government has taken any steps to create awareness among the people not to join ISIS and to wean away the unemployed youths in this regard; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Security Agencies have so far arrested 68 ISIS supporters/sympathizers. A total of 50 persons have been arrested by the Security Agencies during the current year (Maharashtra-11, Karnataka-07, Telengana-11, Uttarakhand-04, Kerala-06, Delhi-01, West Bengal-02, Rajasthan-01, Uttar Pradesh-02, Madhya Pradesh-01, Jammu & Kashmir-01, Bihar-01 and Tamil Nadu-02).

(e) & (f): The terrorist outfit (ISIS) is using various platforms to propagate its ideology and to attract recruits from across the world. The Intelligence and Security Agencies maintain a close watch to identify those engaged in such anti-national activities and persons/ preachers misguiding the youth and action is initiated against such persons under the relevant laws. Apart from it, various other steps are being undertaken by the Government to counter radicalization, details of which cannot be disclosed in the interest of national security.
