Question : GUNA ETAWAH RAIL LINE PROJECT



(a) the date on which Guna-Etawah rail line project was approved by the Government and the period of completion of the said project;

(b) whether the said project has been completed;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) the length of line in kilometre that has been constructed so far and the time by which the construction of remaining line is likely to be completed; and

(e) the funds earmarked for the said project during the current financial year?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF THE UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 674 BY SHRI RAMSEVAK SINGH TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 28.07.2005 REGARDING GUNA-ETAWAH RAIL LINE PROJECT.

(a) to (d): The work of construction of new broad gauge rail line between Guna and Etawah (344 kms.) was included in the Budget 1985-86. Guna to Bhind (306 kms.) has since been completed and opened to traffic in the following three phases:-

Guna-Shivpuri (102 kms.) Feb,1991 Shivpuri-Gwalior (125 kms.) April,1999 Gwalior-Bhind (79 KMS.) July,2002



In the last leg of the project between Bhind and Etawah (38 kms.), 79% of the work has been completed. On this section, land in wildlife sanctuary area still remains to be handed over. The completion of work of this section would depend upon handing over of the land to the Railways.

(e) : An outlay of Rs. 25 crore has been provided for this project during the current financial year.
