(a) No, Sir. However, a proposal for setting up of a rating training establishment in Kerala was initiated in 1990 with the understanding that the land would be provided free of cost by the Government of Kerala. As the Government of Kerala could not provide land free of cost, the proposal could not materialise.

(c)&(d): The Government had accepted the recommendations of the expert team and the efforts were made towards the setting up of the proposed establishment at Kakodi. However, since the Government of Kerala did not agree to provide the required land for setting up of the institute the proposal could not materialise.
Following the change in the policy of Government enunciated in 1997, procedure for approval of training institutes to be set up in the private sector have been laid down. The Government ensures maintenance of laid down standards.
At present there are five rating training institutes on the Western Coast viz. T. S. Rehman, Mumbai; BPT-FOSMA Training Centre, Mumbai; NUSI Academy, Goa; Indian Institute of Maritime Technology, Cochin & Euro Tech, Cochin.
