Question : Works under ABY in Maharashtra and Rajasthan

(a) whether the Government has launched Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABY) in view of the problem of drinking water and irrigation in many parts of the country;
(b) if so, details of the objectives and targets of the said scheme;
(c) the names of States and districts across the country which have been assimilated thereunder along with the funds allocated and works to be executed under the scheme and the methods of executing the same;
(d) whether Jalore Sirohi, dark zone area of Rajasthan along with the most draught affected area of the country like Latur district of Marathwada in Maharashtra have been included under the said scheme;
(e) if so, the number of works recommended to be done in Jalore Sirohi district of Rajasthan under the said scheme along with the quantum of funds spent so far on the same; and
(f) the works likely to be executed in Latur district under this Scheme along with the details thereof?

(a) to (f) Government of India has approved Atal Bhujal Yojana (Atal Jal), a Rs.6000 Crore Central Sector Scheme, for sustainable management of ground water resources with community participation in water stressed blocks of Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The scheme is being implemented during 2020-21 to 2024-25 with the financial assistance of World Bank with a sharing pattern of 50:50 between Government of India and World Bank.

The implementation of the scheme is likely to have several positive outcomes including better understanding of the groundwater regime, focused and integrated community based approach for addressing groundwater depletion issues, sustainable groundwater management through convergence of ongoing/new schemes, adoption of efficient water use practices for irrigation, augmentation of groundwater resources in targeted areas.
