Question : Employment under MGNREGS

(a) the number of rural households who got 100 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) on an average during the last three financial years and the current year till date, State/UT-wise;

(b) the number of persons provided with employment under MGNREGS in drought and hailstorm affected areas across the country, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Union Government has received representations/complaints regarding non- availability of work under MGNREGS and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the corrective steps taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): State/UTs-wise details of households completed 100 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS during the last three years and the current year (as on 24.07.2017) is at Annexure-I.

(b): Details of persons provided employment under MGNREGS in drought affected areas during the last year and current year is given at Annexure-II.

(c) & (d): The Ministry, under MGNREGA receives complaints of irregularities including non-availability of work etc., Since the responsibility of implementation of MGNREGA is vested with the State Governments/UTs, all complaints received in the Ministry are forwarded to the concerned State Governments/UTs for taking appropriate action including investigation, as per law. Detailed instructions by way of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for complaint redressal have also been issued to all States/UTs. 20 States and 1 UT have formulated Grievance Redressal Rules for dealing with complaints. Steps have been taken to strengthen social audit units and appointment of Ombudsmen in the States. State specific reviews of States are also undertaken from time to time. Officers of the Ministry and National Level Monitors also visit various districts to oversee the performance of MGNREGA. The cumulative pendency of the grievances is monitored at the Ministry level.
