Question : OPENING OF NEW FARM INSTITUTIONS



(a) whether the Government is considering to open new farm institutions like Central Agricultural University, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Institutes of dairy farming, soil and water testing, integrated pest management and horticulture in different parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which these Institutes are likely to be opened?

(a) to (c): Yes, Madam. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) plans to establish one Agricultural University each in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan and one Horticultural University each in Telengana and Haryana in the current Plan. Two Research Institutes on the pattern of Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in Assam and Jharkhand, as announced by the Hon’ble Finance Minister during the budget speech in the Lok Sabha on 10.7.2014 are also proposed to be opened. During 12th Five Year Plan, two Central Agricultural Universities (CAUs) one each in Bihar (by upgradation of the existing State Agriculture University) and Meghalaya will also be set up. ICAR has plans to establish 60 additional Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the 12th Five Year Plan.
