(a) whether the Government propose to enact amendment to Information Technology Act to bring intellectual property rights and regulation of electronic payment gateways under its purview;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the details of the alternative arrangements made to deal with these key areas?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.48 FOR 26-07-2000 REGARDING AMENDMENT TO IT ACT




(a) and (b): There is no proposal to enact amendment to Information Technology Act, 2000 to bring intellectual property rights and regulations of electronic payment gateways under its purview.

(c): Government is considering to bring separate amendment to the Copyright Act and also a new Electronic Fund Transfer Act to address the issue of intellectual property right arising from the use of Information Technology, and regulation of electronic payment gateways respectively.
