(a) whether the Solar Power Plants installed in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir State
are likely to replace the present Diesel Generator Sets; and
(b) the total power generating capacity likely to be increased after commissioning of these solar power plants?

(a)&(b): Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has sanctioned projects to set up
stand-alone solar photovoltaic power plants of about 4.1 MW aggregate capacity in the Ladakh
region of Jammu and Kashmir during 2010-11. These projects are expected to reduce the
dependence on diesel generators after they are commissioned.
