Question : CONCESSIONAL LOAN FOR DISABLED STUDENTS



(a) whether the Government has launched any concessional education loan schemes for the students of SCs, OBCs and other students belonging to poor families Safai Karamchari with disabilities for study within the county and abroad;

(b) If so, the details thereof;

(c) whether interest subsidy is also available for the above loan facilities; and

(d) If so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The Ministry of Human Resource Development has not launched any such Concessional Education Loan Scheme. However, as per the information received from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, there are two Education Loan Schemes (ELS) of that Ministry as under:

# ELS of National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC); and

# ELS of National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC).

Under the ELS of NSKFDC, Education Loan is provided to the members of Safai Karamcharis including Scavengers and their dependents for purposes of professional or technical education at graduate and post-graduate level and also for higher study in Engineering, Medical, Management, Law etc. to the extent of 90% of the loan amount subject to maximum loan limit of Rs. 10.00 lakh per student (for studying within India) and Rs. 20.00 lakh per student (for studying abroad). The balance 10% is to be borne by students.

Under the scheme NSFDC, loan is provided for pursuing fulltime Professional / Technical courses upto Rs. 10.00 lakh (for studies within India) and upto Rs. 20.00 lakh (for studies abroad). 90% of the loan amount is provided by NSFDC and 10% is to be borne by students.

(c) & (d): The interest subsidy is available to all Educational Loans obtained for studies within India under Education Loan Scheme of Indian Banks` Association (IBA), including schemes mentioned above.
