Question : Projects under Khelo India Programme

(a) the details of main objectives of Khelo India Programme;

(b) the details of funds disbursed so far in the country under Khelo India programme along with the sectors of fund allocations, State-wise;

(c) the details of major ongoing projects of Khelo India in UTs;

(d) whether there is any special Khelo India projects for Kerala and Lakshadweep and if so, the details thereof;

(e) the details and the number of SAI centres in the country, State/UT-wise; and

(f) whether the Government plans to bring more SAI centres in the country and if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

(a) “Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports” Scheme was started in the year 2016-17 and revamped in 2017-18. The Khelo India Scheme aims to infuse sports culture and achieve sporting excellence in the country and also to encourage sports all over the country thus allowing the population to harness the power of sports through its cross-cutting influence, namely, holistic development of children & youth, community development, social integration, gender equality, healthy lifestyle, national pride and economic opportunities related to sports development.

(b) Funds are disbursed Scheme-wise, not State-wise. However, the details of funds released under various verticals of the Khelo India Scheme so far are at Annexure – I.

(c) A total of 22 sports infrastructure projects have been sanctioned in Union Territories under the Khelo India Scheme as detailed in Annexure – II.

(d) 05 sports infrastructure projects have been sanctioned in Kerala and 02 in Lakshadweep under the Khelo India Scheme as detailed in Annexure – III.

(e) Sports Authority of India is implementing the following sports promotional schemes across the country to identify talented sportspersons in the various age groups and nurture them to excel at national and international competitions: -

• National Centres of Excellence (NCOE)
• SAI Training Centre (STC)
• Extension Centre of STC
• National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC)
(its Sub-Schemes - Regular Schools, Indigenous Games & Martial Arts (IGMA) & Akharas)

SAI has established 23 NCOEs and 67 STCs to implement the above Sports Promotional Schemes across the country along with total of 189 Centres including NCOEs, STCs, Extension Centres, etc.

The State/UT-wise details of SAI Centres across the country are at Annexure - IV.

(f) No such proposal is currently under consideration in this Ministry.
