Question : Job Card Holders under MGNREGS

(a) whether the number of job cards under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has been decreased during the last two years in the country and if so, the details thereof during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise and year-wise;

(b) whether the Union Government has taken any steps to cancel/eliminate fake job cards under the said scheme in order to check the siphoning off Government money and if so, the details thereof during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to increase the workdays in drought affected States under the said scheme during the current year; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State/UTwise?

(a): State/UT-wise details of the number of job cards issued to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers during the last three years and the current year is given in Annexure-I.

(b): State/UT-wise number of job cards scrapped under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) due to reasons like fakes, misappropriation, wrong allocation and deceased are given at Annexure-II.

(c) & (d): The Ministry of Rural Development provides 50 days of additional employment in notified areas of drought affected States under MGNREGS. Accordingly, on recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, provision of additional employment of 50 days over and above 100 days per household under MGNREGA has been made in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh during Financial Year 2016-17.
