Question : Luxurious Coaches

(a) whether train passengers and tourists can now look forward to travelling in the state-of-the-art luxurious coaches having glass ceiling and equipped with infotainment system, similar to that in Switzerland;

(b) if so, whether the Railways proposes to introduce indigenous state-of-the-art luxurious coaches having glass ceiling and equipped with infotainment system;

(c) if so, the details thereof and objective behind it;

(d) the salient features thereof;

(e) the cost of these coaches and the manner in which the railway will protect these delegated coaches from any damage;

(f) the time by which these will be introduced;

(g) whether the Government is also considering export of these coaches; and


(h) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Three special design coaches are under manufacture at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai for operation in Araku Valley and Kashmir Valley for tourists / passengers.

(c): The objective is to provide tourists / passengers with improved facilities and better view of the valley while travelling.

(d): The salient features of the proposed coaches include wide windows, observation window at one end, roof with glass look out with controlled opalescence, rotatable seats, passenger information system, automatic sliding doors, mini pantry, wide door for Divyang etc.

(e): The cost of one coach is E 4 Crore approx. The windows are made of shatter proof glass.

(f): No target date has been fixed.

(g) & (h): Presently, there is no such proposal.
