(a) : Based on the recommendations of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (SAC-PM) and also taking into account the regional imbalance, the Government established eight new IITs during the XIth Five year Plan in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. In pursuance of Finance Minister’s Budget Speech, 2014, the Government also decided to establish 5 more IITs in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Goa and Jammu. For establishment of new IITs, the State Govern- ments are to identify suitable land measuring about 500-600 acres which is to be allotted free of cost, fee of legal encumbrances at a location having necessary infrastructure such as road, rail and air connectivity, physical infrastructure and basic- facilities for setting up of the IITs.
(b) : List showing the State-wise present status of establishment of IITs in the various States is enclosed at Annexure-I.
(c) : List showing proposal received from various States including Karnataka and Kerala for setting up of IITs is enclosed at Annexure-II.

(e) & (f) : The academic session of the 5 new IITs will commence from the academic year 2015-16 from the temporary campuses having adequate infrastructure till construction of permanent cam- puses which will be completed within a period of 3 years from the date of handing over of the land by the State Government. As per the Detailed Project Report, cost of establishment of each new IIT is Rs.2,200 crores approximately over a period of 7 years.
