Question : EMPLOYMENT UNDER GRAMEEN KAUSHALYA YOJANA



(a) whether the Government has conducted any study to ascertain the number of unemployed youth in rural areas across the country;

(b) if so, the outcome of the study along with the number of unemployed youths in rural areas in the country, State/UT-wise;

(c) the details of the unemployed youths trained by the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) and Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;

(d) whether certain deficiencies during implementation of the said schemes have come to the notice of the Government during the said period, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the remedial measures taken by the Government for effective implementation of the said scheme?

(a) & (b) As per available information reliable estimates of employment and unemployment are obtained through labour force surveys on employment and unemployment conducted by National Sample Survey Office (NSS), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The survey results categorise employment and unemployment as rural/ urban male/ female, etc. The details of rural and urban employment and unemployment are at Annex-I.  

(c) The details of unemployed youths trained by the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise is at Annexure – II. Details of rural poor youth trained and placed in jobs under Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (erstwhile Aajeevika Skills) during last three years, State-wise is at Annexure – III.

(d) & (e) The Placement Linked Skill Development program in the Ministry for rural poor youth has been revamped as Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) with a view to re-focus and re-prioritize the program to build the capacity of rural poor youth in order to address the needs of both national and global skill requirements.
