Question : DRINKING WATER DATA



(a) whether the Government has found gross irregularities while analysing the data relating to supply of drinking water to rural habitations;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the action taken by the Government in this regard; and

(d) the results achieved thereafter?

(a) &(b) In February 2003, all the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations were requested to conduct fresh habitation survey to ascertain the status of drinking water supply in all rural habitations. The survey data received from State/UT Governments revealed certain discrepancies like incorrect categorization of habitations.

(c) & (d) The Government of India has entrusted the job of validation of the survey data to Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). Government has entered into an MOU with IIPA in this regard on 6.12.2004 to complete the validation in 14 months. IIPA has initiated the data cleansing process in respect of 22 States till date.
