(a) to (c)In supersession of Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has notified Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The Rule mandates the Secretary–in-charge, Urban Development in the States and Union territories to start a scheme on registration of waste pickers and waste dealers. Further, the local authorities and village panchayats of census towns and urban agglomerations have been mandated to provide training on solid waste management to waste-pickers and waste collectors.
