Question : Production and Consumption of Fish

(a) the details of the production and need based consumption of fish in the country, State-wise including Kalahandi and Naupada districts of the State of Odisha;
(b) whether the Government has made appropriate provisions for storage of fisheries in the State of Odisha;
(c) if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the steps taken/being taken to generate employment opportunities in the field of fisheries and to provide training to the farmers for the said purpose?

(a): The fish production in the country stood all time high at 141.64 lakh tonnes during 2019-20 and the state/UT wise details of fish production and per capita fish consumption reported during the year 2019–20 is furnished at Annexure- I.The details of fish production and consumption of fish in Kalahandi and Nuapada districts of Odisha are given below:

(b) to (d): The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing a flagship scheme “Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)” with highest ever investment of Rs. 20050 crores in the fisheries sector over a period of five years up to 2024-25 in all States/Union Territories. The scheme intends to addresscritical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernization and strengthening of value chain, traceability, enhancement of fisheries export, establishing a robust fisheriesmanagement framework, training of capacity building and fisher’swelfare. PMMSY aims to generate 55 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. During the financial year 2020-21, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has accorded approval to the proposal of Government of Odisha at a total cost of Rs. 216.25 crore with central share of Rs. 68.84 crore under the PMMSY. The approved project of 2020-21 amongst the others also setting up 3 cold storages / ice plants and modernization of 4 cold storages/ ice plants, supply of 10 refrigerated vehicles and 35 insulated vehicles and investment of Rs. 1600 lakhs approved for these post-harvest related activities.
