(a) the share of small scale industries in export compared to that of organized sector as on date;

(b) the contribution of SSIs in generation of employment opportunities and creation of assests in the country;

(c) whether long term policy has been formulated to develop small scale industries; and

(a): According to the latest data available for the financial year 2000-01, the share of exports from the small scale sector in the total exports from the country was 34.5%.

(b): It is estimated that the Small Scale Sector provided employment to 18.56 million persons and contributed about 40% of the total production of manufacturing sector in the year 2000-01.

(c) & (d): The comprehensive policy package to strengthen the small scale sector and enhance its competitiveness announced by the Government on 30th August, 2000 inter-alia includes easier access to credit, availability of collateral free composite loan upto Rs. 25.00 lakh, capital subsidy for technological upgradation and improved infrastructure.
