Question : E KYC FOR PASSENGER ENTRY TO AIRPORT



(a) whether the Government proposes to allow Electronic-Know Your Customer (e-KYC) for entry of passengers to Airports;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the purpose behind the move;

(c) whether the Government has launched any pilot project in this regard and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the time by which such project is likely to be extended to all parts of the country;

(e) whether the Government has assessed its impact on national security and if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the other steps taken by the Government to increase security/ facilities at Airports?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI HARIBHAI PARATHIBHAI CHAUDHARY)

(a) to (e): No such proposal is under consideration in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

(f): The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA), has issued instructions in regard to strengthening security at airports which include random screening and physical frisking of passengers, staff and visitors at the entry gate of the airport, screening of passenger baggage to X-ray Baggage In-line System (XBIS).

Assigning of security function among concerned agencies such as Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)/State Police, Airline Security Staff etc., Closed Circuit Television Coverage(CCTV), etc.

The Central Security Agencies also carry out periodic security audit of the airports and shortcomings noticed are brought to the attention of BCAS/MCA, along with recommendations, for appropriate action to address the shortcomings and strengthen security.
