Question : USE OF PESTICIDES



(a) the details of the studies which are done by the Agriculture Universities on the safety of pesticides registered in the country and their use;

(b) whether the Government considers the recommendations of these studies in policy making relating to Agriculture;

(c) if so, the details of the pesticides which are registered by the Government and the details of pesticides which are banned or refused registration; and

(d) the action taken by the Government to regulate the use of pesticides in storage and shops as per registered and approved by the Government?

(a) & (b): In order to apply for registration of a pesticide, its applicant is required to submit studies on the following four parameters: (i) Chemistry (ii) Bioefficacy (iii) Toxicity (iv) Packaging.

As per the guidelines of the registration committee, bioefficacy studies are required to be conducted from State Agriculture Universities or ICAR Institutes on the request of an applicant for registration of a pesticide under the Insecticides Act 1968 .

(c): Pesticides which have been registered so far under the Insecticides Act 1968 are at Annexure-I. List of pesticides which have been banned or refused registration in India is at Annexure-II.

(d): Section 13 of the Insecticides Act 1968 and Rule 10 of Insecticides Rules 1971 thereof regulates sale, stock or exhibit for sale or distribution of insecticides.
