Question : WORLD BANK STUDY ON POWER SECTOR POLICIES



(a) whether the World Bank is interested in conducting a study on India`s Power Sector policies;

(b) if so, whether the Government have rejected the proposal of the World Bank in this regard;

(c) if so, the reasons thereof;

(d) the details of guidelines issued by the World Bank during the last three years in regard to India`s power sector policies; and

(e) the extent to which the Government have implemented them so far?

(a) : No proposal has been received from the World Bank for conducting a study on India`s power sector policies.

(b) & (c) : Do not arise.

(d) & (e) : The World Bank does not issue any guidelines in regard to India`s power sector policies. They generally lay down covenants at the time of signing the loan agreements with the borrowing/project implementing agencies for grant of loan for a particular power project/scheme. The Bank has its own internal operational procedures, polices and guidelines.
