Question : FUNDS FOR APDP



(a) whether the Government have decided to provide more funds to strengthen the Accelerated Power Development Programme;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the action plan for improving efficient power distribution is ready;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which this plan is going to be implemented?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) & (b) : Government of India approved Accelerated Power Development Programme (APDP) in November, 2000 with an outlay of Rs.1000 cores for 2000-2001. The Government have enhanced the outlay to Rs.1500 crores during 2001-2002.

(c) & (d) : The Ministry of Power constituted a Committee of Technical Experts to prepare technical manuals for formulation of projects, technical specifications of equipment, energy accounting and training. The Expert Committee has submitted a draft report, which is being discussed with the States. The technical manuals will provide guidelines to the States to formulate projects aimed at improving/upgrading the sub- transmission and distribution network.

(e) : The Government have approved APDP to continue till the year 2012. In the first phase, 60 distribution circles have been taken up for upgradation of distribution network.
