Question : MANAGEMENT OF CATCHMENT AREAS IN MADHYA PRADESH



(a) whether 68 proposals of Madhya Pradesh Government pertaining to management of catchment areas are pending with the Union Government for which Rs. 465.61 lakhs are to be released besides eleven proposals under the IWRDP scheme are also pending with the Union Government; and

(b) if so, the steps being taken by the Government to clear the proposals?

(a) & (b) No project proposal for management of catchment areas in Madhya Pradesh is pending with the Ministry of Agriculture. However, a programme of “Soil Conservation for Enhancing the Productivity of Degraded land in the Catchments of River Valley Projects and Flood Prone Rivers (RVP & FPR)” is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture under which funds are released for all programmes including RVP & FPR of Macro Management of Agriculture. During 2004-05, a total amount of Rs. 45.00 crore has been allocated under Macro Management of Agriculture for the State of Madhya Pradesh.

Under Integrated Wastelands Developments Programme (IWDP) Government of Madhya Pradesh has sent 14 proposals for the sanction of new projects during the current financial year to the Ministry of Rural Development. All the 14 proposals have been approved.
