Question : Construction around Flamingo Sanctuary

(a) whether any type of construction work is strictly prohibited in ten kilometer area of Navi Mumbai gulf including Thane without the permission of State Board for Wildlife and National Board for Wildlife after the declaration of the said complex as Flamingo Sanctuary as per the orders of the Supreme Court;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the decision taken by the State Government to return the invested money of the common citizens due to the pendency of the work of thousands of housing projects from Mankhurd, Bhandup, Thane, Kalwa and Navi Mumbaiup to Panve as a result of the said order?

(a)and (b)The Government of Maharashtra has notified Thane Creek Flamingo Bird Sanctuary in Thane District. The Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around the Thane Creek Flamingo Bird Sanctuary has not been notified. In view of the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court and guidelines of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, construction activities requiring Environmental Clearance as per provisions of the EIA Notification 2006, and located in the default 10 KM zone around the Sanctuary requires clearance from the State Board for Wildlife and Standing Committee of National Board for Wildlife.

(c) As informed by the State of Maharashtra, no decision has been taken by the State Government.
