Question : MASS RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM ALONG ANDHERI-GHATKOPAR CORRIDOR



(a) whether the Government of Maharashtra has decided to implement Mass Rapid Transit System along Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor in Mumbai;

(b) if so, whether the State Government has sought grants-in-aid from the Union Government for this project;

(c) if so, the details thereof alongwith estimated cost of the project;

(d) whether the Union Government has considered the request of the Government of Maharashtra;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Yes, Sir. This is a part of the proposed Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar MRTS corridor.

(b)&(c): The State Government has requested the Government of India to provide funds to the extent of at least 15% of the total cost in form of equity for this project which is proposed to be taken up on Build Operate Own Transfer/ Public-Private Partnership basis. The estimated cost for 15 km length of the proposed Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar project is Rs.1178 crore (at 2003 prices), of which the cost of 10.1 km. long Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor is Rs.1010 crore.

(d)to(f): Appropriate steps have been initiated in this regard.
