Question : Construction of Stadiums

(a) whether the Government has decided to build stadiums at the State, district and panchayat level to promote sports in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the progress made in this direction so far;
(c) the number of new stadia constructed so far during the last two years, State-wise;
(d) whether the Government proposes to build any new stadium in District Rayagada or Koraput, Odisha to organize national level sports championships; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

{ SHRI KIREN RIJIJU }

(a) to (c) ‘Sports’ being a State subject the responsibility for providing sports infrastructure, including construction of stadia at State, District and Panchayat level, rests with the State/Union Territory Governments. Central Government supplements their efforts by training, coaching and bridging gaps in sports infrastructure. There is no proposal under consideration of this Ministry to build stadia at State, District and Panchayat level. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has not sanctioned/constructed any new stadia during the last two years.
(d) and (e) No Sir. No such proposal is under consideration.
