Question : Pedestarian Deaths

(a) the data of pedestrian deaths given by the NCRB during the last three years;

(b) whether the figures given out by the NCRB regarding pedestrians deaths are in
contradiction to foreign studies and FIRs lodged, if so, the details and the reasons
therefor; and

(c) whether the Government has taken initiatives or any campaigns to address this
issue, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (b) As per data provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the total number of pedestrian deaths in road accidents in India during 2013, 2014 and 2015 is as under:

NCRB collects data of road accidents death including pedestrian deaths from State Crime Records Bureau / CID of States / UTs. As per Global Status Report on Road Safety, 2015 published by World Health Organization (WHO), in 2013, the percentage of pedestrian death was 9% of total reported deaths.

(c) With a view to spread road safety awareness among the general public, the Government has been undertaking publicity measures through print and electronic media for various segments of road users, including pedestrians.
