Question : VACANT POSTS OF MANAGING DIRECTORS



(a) the time by when the posts of full time Managing Director of the Indian Airlines and Air India have been lying vacant;

(b) the reasons for not making any appointments on these posts; and

(c) the time by which the Government proposes to make appointments on these posts?

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI SHARAD YADAV)

(a), (b) and (c): The post of full time Managing Director of Air India Ltd. has been filled on regular basis w.e.f. 23.1.1998.

As regards Indian Airlines Ltd., the post of full time Chairman and Managing Director, fell vacant on 26.5.2000. One of the Joint Secretaries who is now also the administrative Joint Secretary of Indian Airlines Limited, is currently holding the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Airlines as an-interim -arrangement. The proposal for selection to the post and appointment thereto has been taken up with Public Enterprises Selection Board on 3.1.2000. The selection process is underway.
