Question : DEFAULT IN PAYMENT OF ESI DUES

(a) the total number of employers, establishments and contractors who default in payment of Employees State Insurance dues in the country, State-wise;

(b) the cumulative defaulted dues outstandings as on date and the period of default;

(c) the quantum of amount of the arrears recovered so far from the defaulters; and

(d) the number of cases filed, the conviction made and the cases pending for action so far, State-wise?

(a): Total number of employers, establishments and contractors who default in payment of ESI dues was 1,23,217 as on 31.3.2007. The State-wise position of dues outstanding is at Annexure-‘A’.

(b): The cumulative defaulted dues outstanding upto 31.3.2007 was Rs. 1150.98 crores.

(c): The dues of Rs. 1369 crores have been recovered from the defaulters upto 31.3.2008.

(d): The number of cases filed and conviction made during the last three years i.e. 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 and the number of cases pending as on 31.12.2007 is furnished in the statement enclosed.
