(a) whether the Motormen of Railways in Mumbai had gone on strike recently for their demands;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Fast Track Committee constituted to look into the demands of Motormen has submitted their report;
(d) if so, the details thereof;
(e) the follow-up action taken thereon; and
(f) the steps taken by the Railways to check the recurrence of such incidents in future ?

(a) and (b): A section of Motormen of Central and Western Railways through their agitation
disrupted sub-urban train services in Mumbai on 3rd and 04-05-2010. The agitation by
Motormen was not supported by the recognized Federations.
(c) to (f): The Fast Track Committee has submitted its report. The Committee has inter-
alia dwelt upon the issues relating to pay structure and other allowances of loco running
staff including motormen, which have arisen out of implementation of the recommendations of
the Sixth Central Pay Commission.
Railways have a large number of categories of employees. All major decisions are
taken in consultation with the recognized Federations.
This Ministry has addressed major issues to eliminate grievances relating to pay
structure, etc. of certain critical categories, including motormen, and referred to
Ministry of Finance.
