(a) whether construction work of Birupa-Genguti major irrigation project in Orissa has been discontinued;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor;
(c) the estimated cost of the project and the fund sanctioned by
the Union Government for the project, so far; and
(d) the efforts being made by the Union Government to re-start
the construction work of the project?

(a) to (d) The reference is presumably to Birupa-Ganguti
Island project. As per Draft Annual Plan 2000-2001 document of
Orissa the status of the project is as under:-
1. Started in Plan : VII PlanBeing a state subject, irrigation projects are investigated, planned, executed and funded by the state governments themselves out of their own resources and as per their priorities.
2. Approval Status : Approved by Planning Commission (PC) in March, 1990 with an estimated cost of Rs.4.63 Crore.
3. Revised estimated cost : Rs. 11.464 crore as approved by P.C. on 29.3.94
4. Expenditure incurred upto : Rs. 14.24 crore 3/2000
5. Outlay proposed by State : Rs. 0.20 crore Govt. during 2000-2001
