Question : SCHEMES TO PROMOTE TOURISM



(a) whether the Government has launched a number of schemes to promote tourism in various States;

(b) if so, the details thereof, scheme-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to launch more schemes to develop tourist spots and infrastructure; and

(a) to (d): The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) promotes India as a holistic destination covering tourist destinations and products in the entire country. The Ministry of Tourism also promotes tourism under Marketing Development Assistance (MDA) scheme in the domestic and international markets.

The Ministry of Tourism under its ongoing scheme of Product/Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits (PIDDC) provides assistance to the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations for the development of tourist spots and infrastructure, including heliport tourism, convention centres, caravan tourism, camping sites etc. During the 11th five year plan MoT has sanctioned 875 projects to the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations for Rs. 2758.99 Crore upto 30-09-2010.
