Question : Exports from Dantewada Mines

(a) the details of various minerals and iron ores produced from the Dantewada mines in Chhattisgarh under the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) during the last three years and the countries to which the minerals acquired from the said mine are being exported;

(b) whether any contract has been signed to give the lease of Mine 13 under NMDC located at Dantewada District to a private firm and if so, the names of iron ores and other minerals obtained from these mines along with the quantity thereof;

(c) the details of the estimated quantity of minerals and iron ores from the said mine during the last three years before signing of the contract on the basis of which the contract was signed; and

(d) the number of mines in Chhattisgarh, lease of which has been given to private firms?

(a) In Chhattisgarh, NMDC is producing Iron Ore from its 5 Mines viz. Deposit 5, 10, 11B, 11C and 14. The Iron Ore produced during last three years by NMDC from its mines in Chhattisgarh are as follows: -

NMDC has been exporting iron ore to Japan and South Korea through MMTC (MMTC being the canalizing agency for Govt. of India) under long-term agreement (LTA) and these exports are undertaken based on the decision of the Government from time to time. Details of exports are as follows: -

(b)&(c): No contract has been signed to give the lease of Mine 13 to a private firm. A Mine Developer cum Operator (MDO) has been appointed through transparent procedure for operation of the mine by NMDC-CMDC Limited (NCL), the lease will remain in the name of NCL. So far, no mining has started from Deposit 13.

(d) 11 mining leases of Iron Ore have been given to private firms in the State of Chhattisgarh.
