Question : FACTORS IMPEDING TOURIST ARRIVALS .



(a) whether the Government have taken any diagnostic exercise on impediments facing tourists arriving in the country;

(b) If not, whether there is any proposal to undertake such an exercise;

(c) If so, whether the Government propose to asses the loss potential due to these impeding factors; and

(d) If so, the step the Government propose to take to resolve the same?

(a)&(b): Yes, sir. A number of corrective measures have been taken up in this regard by the Government interalia as under:-

- Providing better quality facilities at the airports. - State Government has been requested to have tourism legislation and tourist police to improve security. Some of the State Governments like Goa, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan etc. have already done the needful. - Liberal visa regime. - Relaxation in restricted area/protected area per permits to facilitate travel.

(c)&(d): Government of India in consultation with the State Government, Travel Trade and other tourism related services is trying to deal with the impediments by formulating a tourism policy which will take care of removal of all the impediments faced in developing tourism in the country.
