(a) whether the Government is preparing any railways
comprehensive perspective plan projecting the growth and
capacity for the next five years;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has formed any Committee for this purpose; and

(a) & (b): 10th Five Year Plan (2002-2007) includes Railways
comprehensive perspective plan, projected growth of
passenger and freight traffic and capacity enhancement for
the period 2002-2007.
A mid-term appraisal of the 10th Five Year Plan has
also been undertaken by the Planning Commission in order to
reassess the projected growth of traffic, capacity
augmentation and other requirements.
An ‘Integrated Railway Modernisation Plan (2005-2010)’
has also been prepared incorporating various modernization
measures and schemes.
