Question : ITIR in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) the present status and the progress made in the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra;
(b) whether the Government has received any fresh representation from the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra for the release of necessary funds to the aforesaid ITIRs and if so, the details thereof and the response of the Government thereto; and
(c) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to expedite the completion of the project?

Answer given by the minister

(a): Consequent upon the decision for discontinuation of the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) Policy, 2008; the proposal related to establishment of Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh has been returned to Government of Andhra Pradesh on 16.02.2018. Further, this Ministry had not received any proposal for establishment of ITIR in Maharashtra.

(b) and (c): This Ministry has not received any fresh representation w.r.t. aforesaid ITIRs from State Government of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. While evaluating the ITIR Policy Resolution 2008, it was opined that Government has already introduced various schemes/ programmes for infrastructure development and to create sustainable ecosystem for the industry through schemes like Industrial Corridor Development (Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, now DPIIT), Smart City Mission (Ministry of Urban Development, now MHUA), Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) scheme (MeitY) etc. wherein considerable financial support has been made available, the objectives of ITIR are being achieved through promotion of such industrial units in industrial clusters in townships and clusters that are taking shape through DMIC, Smart Cities and other schemes. Considering the other policies /schemes under implementation, ITIR Policy Resolution, 2008 has been discontinued.
