Question : Structural Audit of Schools

(a) whether the Government has conducted structural audit of all the school
buildings of Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the details of buildings found unsafe, Statewise;
and
(c) the remedial steps taken by the Government in this regard to ensure safety of
students in the schools having dilapidated buildings?

(a) to (c) Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has taken up structural audit of 45
Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) buildings which are more than 10 years old, through
IITs/NITs/Govt. Engineering Colleges. State/UT-wise details are annexed.
Based on the reports received from regional offices, 21 KVs school buildings
in the country– 8 in Maharashtra, 3 in Assam, 2 each in Gujarat & Uttar Pradesh, 1
each in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura & West Bengal have
been found unsafe either fully or partly. Out of these 21 unsafe buildings, work of
replacement of either fully/partly unsafe school buildings at (i) AFS, Thane,
Maharashtra (ii) AFS, Jamnagar, Gujarat (iii) OF, Chanda, Maharashtra & (iv) Nasik
Road camp, Maharashtra have been sanctioned.
In respect of remaining 17 KVs the work of repair / replacement is to be taken
up on receipt of estimates from construction agencies and availability of resources.
Instructions have also been issued by KVS to its field formations for not running the
Vidyalayas from the unsafe buildings.
