Question : National Highway Projects

(a) the details and the present status of major National Highways (NHs) projects taken up during the last three years in the country, State/Route/Km/yearwise;
(b) the funds sanctioned/spent thereon, project-wise;
(c) the road map prepared for future, State-wise; and
(d) the proposals received from the States along with the action taken by the Government thereon during the said period?

(a) & (b) The details of works taken up/awarded by the Ministry for execution along with the expenditure incurred on the development works on the NHs during the last three years is given below:

As of December 2020, 2015 nos. of projects in a length of 62,120 km costing Rs. 8,37,885 cr. are under implementation. Projects are given a time period of 2 to 3 years for completion.

(c) & (d) Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process which is carried out depending on the requirement of connectivity, traffic density, inter-se priority and availability of funds. The proposals of NH development received from the State/UT Governments are approved for execution through State PWDs based on projects identified annually as per available budgetary outlay. Total 1092 nos. Projects costing Rs. 81,898 cr. Have been sanctioned by the Ministry in the period from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
