(a) whether the Government has received any financial assistance from Germany for setting up of multi-purpose cyclone shelters in cyclone affected States;
(b) if so, the details in this regard, State-wise;
(c) the number of such shelters set up from the said foreign aid till date, State-wise; and
(d) the terms and conditions of the said foreign assistance?

(a)to(d): Yes Sir, the Government of India has received financial assistance from Germany (KfW) for Orissa Cyclone Shelter Phase-I & II amounting to Euro 2.556 million (DM 5 million) - grant and Euro 5.113 million (DM 10 million) - grant respectively. The project, being implemented since May, 1996. The funds committed by Germans will be used for:
(i) construction of multipurpose cyclone shelters in the coastal villages of Orissa,
(ii) provision of equipment for task force members to be used in cyclone disasters,
(iii) training of target population on disaster preparedness and disaster management, and
(iv) implementation of system for shelter maintenance.
