Question : BODY PARTS MISSING FROM MORTAL REMAINS



(a) whether complaints have been received by the Government regarding missing of body parts from the mortal remains of Indian workers who died abroad;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken up this matter with the countries concerned; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the response of such countries thereto?

(a): The Government regulates workers who require emigration clearance, going to Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries (Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Sudan (South), Syria, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen) for employment. The Indian Mission in Riyadh has reported one complaint about missing body parts. No other complaint has been received in this context.

(b) to (d): The widow of Late Baljeet Singh, from Haryana, who died on 18.09.2014, had in a letter dated 10.02.2015, complained that her husband’s body was received in India with organs removed from the corpse. The Indian Mission at Riyadh has written to the concerned Saudi authorities to investigate the matter and report the same to the Mission. The widow of late Baljeet Singh has been requested to provide the Embassy with evidence in support of her claim, to be forwarded to the Saudi authorities.
