Question : New Sports Complexes

(a) the details of funds allocated to the State of Assam for enhancement of basic infrastructure of playgrounds, stadiums and other sports related infrastructure during the last four years;

(b) the details of the projects sanctioned and funds released during the last four years for the State of Assam, district-wise;

(c) whether new sports complexes were constructed during the last five years in the North Eastern States; and

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the expenditures involved therein, State-wise?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS { SHRI KIREN RIJIJU }

(a) and (b) Sports being a State subject, the primary responsibility of development of sports related infrastructure rests with the concerned State/Union Territory Government. The Central Government supplements their efforts by bridging the critical gaps. District-wise details of sports infrastructure projects sanctioned in Assam during the last four years and the current year under various schemes of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is at Annexure-I.

(c) and (d) The Khelo India Scheme, which deals with sports infrastructure, does not provide for creation of mega projects such as large stadium and setting up of sports complexes in the States / Union Territories.
