Question : Medical Services in Railways

(a) the mechanism in place to provide medical assistance to the passengers, in the event of any mishap/emergency at the Railway Stations;

(b) whether the Central Railways propose to allow doctors to open clinics and pharmacists medical stores at the Emergency Medical Rooms at the railway stations providing golden hour treatment to train accident victims and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Railways propose to extend these facilities in other Zonal Railways also and if so, the details thereof along with the funds allocated for the purpose; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFFERED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.84 BY SHRI P. C. MOHAN AND SHRI ABHIJIT MUKHERJEE TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 27.07.2015 REGARDING MEDICAL SERVICES IN RAILWAYS
(a): First Aid Boxes containing essential drugs and dressing materials are available at all railway stations. In addition, Augmented First Aid Boxes with wide range of medicines, disposable medical material, etc have been provided at model stations. Railway Staff deployed at railway stations are trained in rendering First Aid services.
(b): Yes, Madam. In compliance of judgement of Hon’ble High Court Mumbai, in Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No.50 of 2008, Central Railway has decided to open Emergency Medical Rooms (EMRs) in some suburban stations of Central Railway to provide golden hour treatment to accident victims.
(c) & (d): No, Madam. The decision to open Emergency Medical Rooms in some Suburban stations of Central Railway was taken in compliance of judgement of Hon’ble High Court Mumbai in PIL No. 50 of 2008, which was based on local transport conditions of Central Railway, Mumbai.
