(a) whether the Government have explored the possibility of setting up a hydel power
project in Purulia parliamentary constituency of West Bengal;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the efforts made to set up such a project on the basis of that possibilities?

(a) to (c) : The Government of West Bengal had evinced keen interest in the Purulia
Pumped Storage Scheme (900 MW) being implemented by National Hydro-electric
Power Corporation (NHPC) jointly with the West Bengal Government. A Memorandum
of Understanding was signed on 25.5.2001 between NHPC and the Government of West
Bengal for the execution and operation of the Purulia Pumped Storage Scheme through a
joint venture arrangement. The Joint Venture Company would come into operation after
the approval by the Government.
