(a) whether the Government has received any complaint regarding the functioning of bio-toilets, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO);
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the action taken by the Government thereon?

(a) to (c): Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed bio-digester for which technology has been transferred to many agencies for installation at various locations. DRDO received many complaints on non-functioning of installed bio-toilets like choking of pipes, improper ventilation in toilet, incursion of non-biodegradable materials, use of excessive acid, usage of more people than the prescribed limit, bio-toilets remained unutilised for more than six months required seeding with fresh bacteria, etc. All complaints have been attended and problems have been rectified by the DRDO / authorised licensees (ToT holders) of bio-digesters.
