Question : Promotion of Archery Sport

(a) whether the Government is aware that Archery sport is not getting due importance at National and International level;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government is not considering Archery as important sport while conducting recruitment under sports quota in the country;
(d) if so, the reasons therefor along with the quota prescribed for Archery sport for recruitment under sports quota in the country; and
(e) the number of sportspersons recruited under sports quota during each of the last three years and the current year, sports-wise including Archery?

(a) & (b): Madam, Government has been giving due importance to Archery Sports. Archey sport has been placed in the ‘High Priority’ category so that it gets maximum financial and other assistance from Government under scheme of assistance to NSFs. During the last three
years i.e. 2013-14 to 2015-16 an amount of Rs. 25.54 Crore has been spent from the Central Government Budget for archery sport.
(c) & (d): As per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, sportspersons, including archers, who have represented a State or the Country in the National or International competitions, Inter-university tournaments conducted by the Inter-University Sports Boards, State School Teams in the National Sports/Games conducted by the School Games Federation of India and those awarded with National Awards in Physical Efficiency under the National Physical Efficiency Drive, are eligible for appointment in Central Government offices against the vacancies reserved for meritorious sportspersons.
In terms of existing instructions of the Government, up to 5% of direct recruit vacancies in Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ posts are reserved for meritorious sportspersons in Central Government offices.
(e) Since recruitment is done by different organizations of the Government spread across the country, the number of sportspersons recruited year-wise and sports discipline wise is not available with this Ministry.
